The engine compartments on our former 5 series were watertite it seemed. Nothing really got past it. Granted it was not an overhanging hood design like the X3 is. That could be the ultimate issue.

Nope. wife drives it to and from work, in comfort mode and auto trans w/o shifting. Heavy acceleration and speeding aren't really her thing.

I've found that if I just forget about selecting a profile on the screen everything works as it did in our former 535s. The 'key' to it all is to unlock the car w/ the key you want active.
