As BMWFF stated, it is a very easy fix (and well worth it). The difference is like going from a dead-lift of the trunk lid to being able to lift the lid with one finger.

Apparently you can. A vise grip and some paper towel around the shaft and gave it a nice turn and it's all good. Trunk lid is now light as feather. That's a nice fix.

Got car back today. The air mass sensor and an O2 sensor (front) appeared to be the culprit. Ride home was nice even though my hands were shaking at 40 mph. Next, center tie rod.
