I believe in our x1 the auto stop/start does not engage when ambient temperature is less than about 37f. The threshold temp in my 328xd is a bit lower

Except they put the emissions bypass logic in the VW with scr. That doesn't make sense to me.

Vw used NOx traps rather than urea injection for cost reasons and the NOx traps were not sized or designed right. Vw chose to run the emission system only when tested...

Any station on route 17 should have good turnover on the fuel. I hadn't heard that diesel ages poorly myself. If you have home heating oil you will have a longer residence time.

I believe the a4 is an interference engine so a timing belt failure would be the end of you engine so that was wise. A chain should have a fairly long life.
