i believe there is a tensioner of some sort that is supposed to keep the belts tightened. all i can think of is maybe your tensioner is weak or froze up.

1/8" play between axle and final drive "connection" is causing loud clunking...uh oh

Heard a metal clanking (only when windows open and near a wall for the sound to bounce into car) so I assumed it was a bad axle.

Replaced the bad axle.

For 1 day, the problem went away -
