For a couple bucks, you can make a cheap occupancy sensor bypass. Use it to verify a seat sensor problem. Video shows it being used on an E46 but works on the OBD2 E36 has well.

Nope. Seat belts are fitted into the body of car...slot just below the front of the rear passenger windows. Barring electrical differences, if the seats will work in a coupe...they'll work in a vert.
