Z3 alarm problem

I have a 1999 2.3 Z3 with an alarm system that suddenly doesn't work. I've only had this car for a year so don't know all of its history. It appears to be a factory alarm system that locks/unlocks...

Does your car have an automatic or manual top (mine's manual)? I understand they have different wiring under the console.

Is there a trick to finding a hardtop for my '99 Z3? The obvious venues are ebay and craig's list, but I'm not having a lot of luck. Any ideas? Thanks, Brian
