Yes the coolant level switch could be bad. You could be losing coolant from the thermostat housing but not be able to see it (BTDT) especially if you have a plastic (read stock) thermostat housing. If your temp is going up above the middle I would be concerned and get it fixed sooner rather than later. Could be easy as fixing the air flow to the radiator.
