I took my '04 325xiT to independent shop at 40k and had them change the trans filter and refill with AMSOIL ATF, which meets BMW ATF spec. From now on I will just drain and refill at 50k intervals. AMSOIL fluid is good for 100k miles in Normal service, 50k Severe - also works great in power steering. I personally like being conservative.
