YIKES! Driver dies in Lamborghini crash on LA freeway

Just saw this on the news. 30 year old driver in a brand new Lamborghini that didn't even have plates yet. Witnesses said it sounded like a bomb went off and the 101 was closed for 6 hours. Check out the videos in the links. There's nothing left but burnt scrap metal.

How awful. I hope for his sake he died instantly and wasn't burned alive.

The driver of a Lamborghini was killed early this morning in a high-speed single-car crash in Woodland Hills after his vehicle went through a guardrail on the 101 freeway, crashed into a parking structure and burst into flames, authorities said.

The 30-year-old Calabasas man, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol. He had been badly burned in the crash, Kimball said.

Footage of the aftermath of the crash on ABC 7 Los Angeles showed smoke rising from a metal frame and melted steel that was hardly recognizable as a vehicle.

Witnesses reported having seen someone driving recklessly, followed by a loud crash about 2:30 a.m., Kimball said. The Lamborghini was seen speeding west on the Ventura Freeway west of Topanga Canyon Boulevard just before the incident. The make is considered one of the world's premier high-performance cars and can cost well into six figures to purchase.

The crash caused the closure of two lanes on the 101 freeway for more than six hours. The wreckage was cleared away by about 8:45 a.m.
