Let alone the recommendation from BMW will need to sacrifice a key...your car won't start unless it can read the ISN (individual serial number) that is sent from your key to release the Drive-Away-Protection system. This means that if someone were to break into your car...your car could now actually be hotwired and started since you've supplied them with the last piece of the puzzle they need to start the car without having a key.
