i was able to separate the sunroof panel (pics above) and I am just going to weld up the rust holes in it then attach it for now, saves time and effort, the thin metal sheet is quite light too.
thats the route im going to end up going too. the fiberglass and everything just is too much time for something that really doesnt save you any weight. you tig or mig welding it up ? id like to see pics of hpw you weld and finish it flush into place. i have to do the same stuff and its always good to see how someone else went about it.
