If they write the damage at $3000 then figure that's what it would it cost for a professional shop to fix it.
They are stating obviously that your car ain't worth three grand. What ARE they saying it's worth?
In the real world you can replace the parts, which all bolt on, with good used for a few hundred dollars. You may even get lucky enough to find them in your color.
Most ins. cos. will "sell" you the vehicle for salvage value and let you keep it and the check. In most cases you'll come out smelling like a rose, until the next insurance bill arrives.
