Several months ago 9 cars in our neighborhood, including my wife's care were broken into. It was simple smash and grab. Mine has the clown nose blinking away and has not been touched.
Also, with some minor modifications I mounted 4 piezo ($20 each) tweeters in the cab. They are adjusted to 108 db (this is above the threshold for human pain). At that level you cannot keep your eyes open. You can't steal what you can't see. And believe me even the service guys are cautious around my vehicle.
So is an alarm worth it. Yup. And I don't have to shoot them to stop them.
