I am revisiting this thread since my thermostat appears to have failed. I am considering replacing the tensioner since it was not done during the previous overhaul. It appears that autohausaz is now selling an upgrade kit to go from mechanical to hydraulic. I would guess that after a certain build date the tensioners were all hydraulic. My car is a mid 2000 build.
You can search the autohausaz website to see a picture of each type of tensioner.
Also plan to install the lower hose by replacing only the O-ring (part# 13.62.1.743.299) on the temp sensor.
