Yes the oil drains into the dip stick and fumes are fed back into the intake. What happens is gunk build up in the bottom of the separator and plugs the
drain line. Better to just replace the thing as well as the hose to the dip stick. Great pictures of the separator by the way. Also I don't know if you pulled the bracket off but if not that will make life much easier.
Good luck and looking to see more pics. You can keep the old separator and if you know a place that has a parts cleaner you can clean the gunk out if you run it long enough.
