Actually, there is a trick, if one has the broken nipple in the middle of nowhere and is desperate, do this:

- Remove the broken nipple from the "Snake hose" (this hose's sole purpose is for bleeding air out of the radiator) and insert something like a Sharpie pen, then tighten the clamp.
- Refill the reservoir.
- The bleeder screw on top of the reservoir must be closed.

This should take you home for a complete cooling overhaul. Here is what I mean by using the Sharpie:



Otherwise a cooling overhaul is the key.
