Thumbs up Never Give up! It works

First of all never give up. I had the same problem. I could see the BMW discovered in my phone but I could not pair with it. It never asked me to enter my four digit pass code. I called BMW north America and talk to an operator. They asked for my vin and wanted to update my info before helping me with the blue tooth. What they are going to help for free! Wow. Well after entering my pin the lady on the phone said my X5 did not come with blue tooth and I must be seeing something else be discovered. I thanked her for her time and was about to give up. Like always I wanted to try one more time. Low and behold it worked. YEAH!!! I discovered the car when I tried to connect it asked for my four digit pin and it connected. A few minutes later my phone book had transferred and I was making calls. My hunch is the X5 came with blue-tooth since the PIN was in the owners manual. I think when BMW updated the owner information it reset the system. Clearing the old owners phone allowed it to receive my phone. This is a stretch as four phones can be added and a fifth add will drop the first phone automatically but I . All I know is it works. The procedure is this.

Turn X5 off. Press the phone button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds
while holding the phone button turn the key on. Wait 3 more seconds and release the phone button. The phone button is the face not the R/T button.

Immediately search for new bluetooth devices with your phone. When you see something that looks like BMW3299 immediately try to connect to it. The pin screen should pop up.

Enter your pin

That is it. Wait a few minutes for your contacts to transfer then push the R/T button to verify your contacts our in place.

Call your best friend and enjoy the conversation.
