I had a 1980 Rabbit built there - the car was assembled just fine, but the quality of parts was inferior to the cars that came from Germany - especially the interior.

VW Rabbits assembled at the Westmoreland plant were terrible but not because of where they were built. VW chose to build the car with cheap American parts. Cheap interiors, cheap brakes, cheap everything.
It was the beginning of a long slide for VW.
