Mein Auto: '04 M3 / '06 650i Cab
OK, re-did the test using my $$ tire pyrometer along with the $30 infrared gun. There were big differences so I boiled a pot of water and found out (thankfully) my pyrometer is 100% accurate and the infrared reads about 30F too high @200F but almost dead on @100F. Time for a better infrared.

New readings - left = left side when facing car (passenger side on American cars):

Ambient: 57F
Engine oil: 230F (1 tick below midpoint, the warmest my car gets)

Engine cover left: 144F
Engine cover mid: 109F
Engine cover right: 118F

Valve cover left: 184F
Valve cover right: 182F

Engine block: 226F
Air filter cover: 98F
Hood insulation (under the hood): 101F
Water pump: 194F
Straight lines are for fast cars...turns are for fast drivers

'02 Highlander - kid hauler
'01 330Ci - winter beater
