Quite a bit of smoke can go with a CCV failure but it seems odd that none of the other symptoms (rough idle and check engine light) are present. The CCV is a overly complicated PCV valve and can allow the engine to ingest oil which can be surprising. Mine suffered from the hole in the hose failure which on occasion would do the oil smoke trick, and once repaired never exhibited the smoke scare again.
