eas | VF420 Supercharger Installation - 2004 BMW e46 M3

As many of you know, david @ eas suffered from a failed rod bearing in his 2004 BMW M3. Upon further inspection, we noticed the exhaust cam bolts were also backing out - as a few reports from others have confirmed as well. Thus, a donor S54 was sourced with about 70K on the clock and quickly torn down. A fresh set of VAC's Coated Rod Bearings were installed along with new bolts on the cam gears to prevent any future issues.

Preventative maintenance is a must - normally aspirated or otherwise. After installation, a compression/leakdown test was performed and the engine given a clean bill of health, and David was back on the road. After the 1200mi break-in for the rod bearings, this M3 was able to pull a very respectable 277whp on the dyno - indicating a strong baseline for a stock engine.

VF420 Supercharger
We are firm believers in the parts we sell, and run many of them on our own BMWs. At the time with MFest V just around the corner, we decided that it would be great to install a VF420 Supercharger system and some Cool Carbon pads and hit the track.

Here is a completed shot of the install, showing the the new Vortech Compressor - which feature the Black Ceramic coating for an aggressive appearance the hood is popped open. Supercharger mounting bracket is also hard anodized for durability as well as a stealth appearance.

Some quick pics of David's M3 on LVMS @ MFest V:

Respectable numbers can be made with VF's entry level kit, and with a relatively small investment, any e46 M3 can achieve similar numbers for great fun both on and off the track.
