I think the best way to sum up a comparison to the regular F01/02 is that they are very similar until taken to the limits of sport driving related to braking, handling, acceleration and shifting. Those areas that Alpina tweaked really do make a difference, more than I would have believed before driving the car. Truth be told I also really enjoy driving the regular 7.
