The first time it happened, I had to do something. It was summer in VA, and when the Climate Control unit was not working, it left the floor vents on full blast heat. I drove through Charlottesville on Rt. 29 business and hit all 18 stoplights in 114*F heat, with the heat on! I swear I lost 3 lbs in sweat that day.
I agree the cap is just one failure point, but after the swap the problem never came back so I considered it solved. If it wasn't fixed, I was just going to replace it. I think they're like $250 new or something...
