Buy and drive what you like ... but comparing almost any newer car to an older one isn't exactly a fair fight when it comes to reliability. Just the fact that you are stepping up to a newer car will make the difference, regardless of the country it came from.

I've been pondering selling my 540 and buying something newer, more reliable, and more economical.... but you know what I'll get for a similar value? An 8-year-old Corolla/Civic or a 6-year-old Saturn/Focus/Hyunkia. So when I think about doing a straight-up trade for one of those, I don't believe I could bring myself to do it. If I want something as nice and powerful that is newer and more reliable, I'd have to spend a HELLUVA lot more money, as you are doing.

The 540 is my spare car, however, so it doesn't bother me to lay it up when need be (although I haven't had to yet).
