It's within the normal range. An engine with more frequent oil changes and not used for short trips would look almost brand new inside the valve cover. More stop and go would result in more varnish as would less frequent oil changes.

You don't have any 'sludge'. I see nothing there which would indicate a problem. The crud deposit on the inside of the oil filler cap is due to the cap being the coolest part of the engine during shut off and therefore it tends to condense vapors.
