Your screen name tells a story on owning a BMW. Your life lesson for today is that maintaining an E36 is going to cost. They are great cars, and well worth the effort.
Ed (jonesin) has it right. You should do maintenance first, but considering your description of your car bobbing at speed, I'd say get some new shocks and struts on it quick. If you have stock springs, you can get Monroes or some other low priced set of shocks and struts and they'll be OK for quite a while (although not the best).
