Similar thing happened to my grandpa. Pulled into his garage one night and after he got out of his car, some guy ran in and pulled a gun demanding his wallet. The robber made the mistake of being way too close, and for reasons my grandpa still doesn't know, my then 70 year old grandpa started screaming at the top of his lungs and grabbed the barrel of the gun. Guy took off running empty handed. He still doesnt know why he did that.
Fight or flight instinct is a very funny thing.
