Can someone help with this?

What is the brown ground wire for? what does it connect to? The second email with the PDF doesn't show the ground connected to the CAT 6 cable. What does the RJ45 connect to? If a serial port do you have the schematic for the RJ45 to 9 pin serial cable or is it like a slandered Cisco adaptor?
It's recommended to connect the OBD-II pins 4 and 5 to the RJ45 shield so that the car and computer are grounded to each other. Pins 4 and 5 must be connected, but the cable will probably work ok without having the RJ45 shield ground. It's just safer to have it.

The cable has nothing to do with 9 pin serial. This is an OBD-II (16 pin) to RJ45 Ethernet cable, it's not a serial or USB connection.

If your guy doesn't know the difference, then get a pre-made cable or get another guy to make it.
