I am with you on the engine liability as long as you keep up with the maintenance. The 3.0 DOES have oil separator (Crankcase Vent Valve)
OP, if you're a DIYer, you can cut the maintennace cost to half. Many people can affort to buy BMWs but can't affort to own one.
