Great post dboyII

Most polymer sealants contain a minimum amount of solvents to ensure that the product spreads uniformly, the amount of solvents in these products is not normally sufficient to clean the surface of contaminates like oil, grease, wax and silicone; as these contaminants will negatively impact the products ability to cross-link (bond) to the paint surface.

A carnauba wax is formulated with solvents to ensure the products spreads evenly, it would be rock hard without the addition of solvents. Typically, wax compositions contain about 25-35% volatile organic solvents, which will eventually vaporize, leaving the wax as protection for the paint

[Since Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 forms a permanent film, any paint imperfections must be removed with Optimum Polish II or Optimum Finish before application. Also all waxes and oils must be removed from the surfaces for proper bonding] Optimum Website.

I started this post with the word "Most"; this infers that each product is somewhat different and generalization could lead to error, so each individual product mfg instructions should be followed

Be pro-active and research others opinions and products, test them and then make an objective decision based upon the factual information gained from research. Don't regard any source as something you can entirely rely on, least of all marketing hype or brand loyalty.

Within these articles you'll discover the 'How' and 'Why' and find pretty much everything you need to know about detailing; if you do your research correctly. TOGWT Autopia Detailing Wiki - http://www.autopia.org/forum/autopia...yperlinks.html
