I did not refer to any EPA rating, just real world figures over a long run. So that is not an apples to oranges situation.

The EPA changed the way it calculates MPG back in 2008 so you can't use 2006 EPA figures for direct comparison. The "new" way of estimating fuel economy lowered the MPG estimates for most vehicles. You're comparing apples to oranges.
