Are u parked on an incline/decline? Do u get a clunking sound everytime u engage R or D after parking? If u are I suspect u have done long term damage to the tranny. I have a sloped driveway and this is what I do everytime I park.
1. Park the car while in D with footbrake depressed
2. Shift to N
3. engage parking brake
4. Let go of footbrake, car will jerk a bit according to slope of the driveway
5. Engage P in tranny
What this does is allow the parking brake(rear brakes) to absorb the shock of the motion due to the driveway slope, rather than the P in tranny itself. I have no clunking sound when I apply this method.
