Our BMW engines, like those of other German luxury brands, are very complex (too complex?). Skimping on oil changes is a false economy for long term owners.

agreed its heavily debated. I say to each their own. I personally change my oil every 7,500 miles but I throw in a new filter every 3,000. (So, two filters per change period)
