Ok. Pulled the head off yesterday. Nice easy job on the m10, mind you I had good help. Result, a nice clean head with no pitting. Three pistons with normal carbon and one, No 4 nearest firewall, clean as a whistle. Gasket had just started to go round No.4 . So head is off getting skimmed, gasket set on the way. We'll stick some new stem seals in as we go. So all good news. A nice overhauled top end/cooling system will be the result, and not too expensive either. Worth noting here that my last two gasket problems have NOT resulted in coolant loss, or oily water , symptoms are overheating under load, and failing to respond to other fixes, ie fans, stats etc.
