Have you checked the AUDIO INPUT volume on the radio? It must be set to something other than "0" for your auxiliary jack to work. A bad jack or cable will USUALLY give you static or only one channel (left side/right side) will work. No sound at all would indicate that your input volume is set to "0". Do you hear anything when you pug the cable in? You should hear a "pop" at least.
