It probably doesn't explain why one set of WAV files would work and the other not, but flaky power can cause weird things to happen.

standard device current on any USB port is 500mA and 5V.
2.5" portable hard drives have to work with that so there should be plenty for the newer drives that are USB powered only.
that is bizarre that it doesnt read it.
