I've had various cars stolen, rear ended, badly vandalized, side swiped and only once did the insurance allow a complete replacement after the car was smashed into a wall and set on fire to destroy evidence from a robbery. If the vehicle is drivable, insurance is likely to repair the car.

You should always return to a BMW dealership for the repair to guarantee the warranty and protection from future problems.

As for going forward, the car should be OK except for possible rust problems of the damaged areas and depreciation. Your car VIN identifies repair costs, irrespective of the fault. So you will lose $$$ on a future trade-in.
