I am running 255-55-18 Bridgestone Blizak DM-V1 on my winter set up. In fresh powdery snow and hard packed snow, they are GREAT. I have not had any real experience on ice; but, I have also never had an issue with severe loss of traction with them. (Unless I caused the loss of traction. :-) ) They are are very quiet and give a compliant ride.
Being winter tires, a taller profile and non run flats, they do feel a bit mushy. You will feel them settle into a turn during spirited driving. They have never lost traction or made me feel unsafe. They just feel different.
I would recommend them to anyone. I go to the Poconos and to the Catskills/Adirondacks regularly in the winter and I have never been stuck.
