This is exactly right. You negotiate the sale price even before you negotiate a lease... so your payment and such will all be based on the sale price not MSRP. The residual becomes a percentage of the US MSRP of your optioned out car... which means that for $500-$1000 over invoice you can be 10-11% down on US MSRP. Mine equated to about 11% off US MSRP and I put max MSD's on it... I also dropped a small down payment in there to get my payment down a bit further... kept my MSD's manageable
