OK....here`s the long and the short of it:
The E46 *IS* "older technology", but it`s far more user/DIY-friendly (AND, it has a dipstick !), and has an edge as far as reliability and longevity go. Downside for the E46: unless you`re willing to invest major bucks in a supercharger system ($7-10,000 to do it the right way), there is no more (appreciable) HP to be squeezed from the 3-liter.
The 335, OTOH, can be enhanced by products like the Juice Box JB IV, which will provide a nice kick in the pants when you sting it....
