I think somehow when the keys are within range it prevents the car to go to sleep. These keys also have a abnormally long range and i could lock/unlock the car nearly a block away. We'll see if this is true next weekend.
I don't think you can compare the transmit power when you are pressing the lock/unlock, to the transmission used when operating import access. Think about it, If you had the same dBm power all the time the battery would be drained in a day, just my $.02
