I really hope that reliability will improve. The car and its brand, not to mention us purchasers, deserve it, I think.

There is no reason that the car's reliability should not be on par with its driving excellence, comfort, safety, etc.

Reliability has been my hesitation in buying a BMW until now. I decided to pull the trigger on an X3 28i and take my chances. All the Bimmers in all the classes have been the most fun to drive for me; 3,5,7 and X are ones that friends of mine have or have had. Many have reported that they've had no reliability issues, but some have told me to beware. Even the glowing CNBC special on BMW discusses that issue. If the vehicle spends too much time getting serviced I don't see the point of owning one and having to put up with that aggravation.
