yeah the question now is do I just buy a proper housing and finish the connection properly or get an auto electrician to put a proper switch and re-activate the immobilser.

I'm leaning towards the first option.. I mean if I was able to bypass the immobiliser a car theif could easily do the same, plus as much as I love my E30, it's not the type of car it would be taken by a joy riding car thief.
