Hi. Just a heads up, you will probably get more replies to this thread if you post in the E63/64 forum which is labeled as "6 Series"
This is the F12/13 forum and while some of us are previous owners of the E63/64, many of us are new to the 6 Series BMW such as myself and will not be able to answer your question about previous models.
From the main page, go to "Forums", then "BMW Model Discussions", then "6 Series" From that page, scroll down a bit and you will find the E63/64 Forum
