I think this is the second bump within the MY...the first was with MY change, but there were some equipment changes so it's a bit complicated to figure out.
Back in 12/2002, I bought my car for < $29K (less taxes and other fees).
Today, a base 328 no line retails for about $38K.

I find that $29K from 2002 should be about $37K in 2013.
I'd say it's tracking inflation pretty well.
Of course, there is much more standard equipment, but that is to be expected with advances in technology. Think about how much you paid for a PC back in 2002.
