On older cars and the M50 BMWs, the fuel maps and other engine control data are hard coded onto a removable EPROM chip. Simply pop out the chip and put a new one with different parameters and your engine program is different from
Newer OBDII cars don't have these removable chips. Instead you plug a unit into the OBDII port and it will upload the new programming to the DME. This is called a reflash.
