One of my peeves as well. Along these lines, we have many six lane boulevards in my area (three lanes each way), and many include two left turn lanes. In other words, two lanes turning left into three lanes. I don't understand why the right-side left turning vehicle often feels the need go to the middle lane after the turn, squeezing the inside vehicle into the tightest turn possible and wasting the available space in the right lane after the turn.
