According to RDL in post #118 here, the BMW TIS recommends the two little o-rings on the bottom of the oil-filter-housing stem to be replaced at EVERY oil change!

I doubt anyone does it that frequently - but it's apparently in that TIS.
All I have is this screenshot ... so if you have the TIS - let us know what it actually says.
