First, as you know, severe engine damage can result when your engine overheats. So you need to address this issue immediately.

Second, I assume that the temperature gauge is operating normally. That is, it starts at the cold mark and moves toward the hot mark as the engine heats up.

With the symptoms you describe, no cabin heat and the temperature in the red, it appears that the coolant is not circulating through the engine. That could be because the thermostat has failed closed. Or maybe the water pump has failed and is not pushing water into the engine.

Either way, it appears that you need a cooling system overhaul. You should probably check the cylinder compression to assure there is no engine damage.
