OP a good multi meter will be your best friend, you'll need to measure voltage and resistance, of course your going to need to figure out what those readings should be. My set of C5 service manuals gave commanded voltage as well as resistance values for sensors, which helped in diagnosing failed electronics.
Does BMW print their service manuals for their techs?
